Anxiety has increased throughout the European Union

All the EU citizens surveyed feel more or far more vulnerable to social risks. On average, more than one in two Europeans feel at greater risk of losing their jobs than they did five years ago (56%). More worryingly, 63% of the people surveyed consider they are at far greater risk of facing poverty than they did five years ago. Lastly, seventy percent consider that the risk of financial difficulties has increased (43% consider it has increased strongly).

These anxieties and fears are magnified since nearly one out of two Europeans (47%) believe that they are less well protected against all these risks than they were five years ago, regardless of whether the risks are financial or social. At the opposite end of the scale, 25% feel that their protection is neither better nor worse and only 28% consider that their protection has improved over the past five years. A great majority of Europeans therefore feel vulnerable to risk.
